ART REPRODUCTION F.A.Q.'s
GICLEE
Giclée (jhee-clay) is a French word meaning "spraying of paint." The word is used to describe prints produced by a high definition inkjet printer. Giclées use digital technology to enhance and preserve the character of the artists's original. The printing is done with costly pigment based archival inks printed on museum quality canvas or rag paper. The result is an image that rivals the beauty of the original. Giclées are found in most major art museums and fine art galleries, validating this new form of art.
CANVAS GICLEES
Giclée on canvas are meant to be stretched on canvas stretcher-bars, a service offered by most good framers, and then framed just like an original painting. I stretch my giclées myself to offer my customer a more competitive price, however, if you are ordering a print that is to be shipped over a long distance, shipping the print unstretched rolled in a tube would be more economical.
LE...LIMITED EDITION PRINTS
A fixed number of identical prints of an image, signed by the artist, sequentially numbered, and showing both the print's number and the total edition size. Each print is referred to as a "limited edition print".
All prints are signed and numbered. Prices are subject to change. Edition sizes represent the total number of prints in the edition regardless of the size or paper. You can request custom sizes and custom stretching either on ¾” stretcher bars, which would later be framed, or 1 ½” stretcher bars a.k.a. gallery wrap.
OPEN EDITIONS
The quantity of prints reproduced is not limited. As long as the image is in demand, it will be printed.
AP - ARTIST PROOF PRINTS
Common practice is that 10 to 15 percent of an edition size is reserved for the artist. They are excluded from the numbering of a limited edition, but are exactly like the editioned prints in every other respect yet are often considered more valuable. Usually appears as "A.P."
ENHANCED
The artist enhances a print by painting into the image, causing the print to have similar characteristics of the original. I will add touches that the printing process doesn’t pick up too well, such as the shine of interference paint on a hummingbirds head for example.
