ABOUT THIS PAINTING
I have always had a fondness for owls and found my inspiration for this painting during one of my frequent visits to an old barn on a close-friends property. The old barn is full of wildlife including bats, barn swallows and mice so I have numerous ideas for other compositions. The barn owl has his eye on a small mouse sitting on a log near a hay stack.
Barn owls are about the size of a cat but their wingspan can reach up to four feet A single barn owl can eat over 1,000 rodents annually which is vital for pest control. Sadly, their population is considered at risk depending on regions, with the Eastern population listed as Endangered and the western population listed as Threatened due to reduced nesting sites. They are protected under both federeal and provincial legislation.
